2020-2021 WINTER LEAGUE INFORMATION

*** UPDATED 10/24/2020 ***

Current Travel Team Program Status

We're happy to share that we've secured some court times at Shrewsbury Club located at 3 Tennis Dr, Shrewsbury, MA 01545 for weekday practices and weekend games.  The proximity is much closer and more convenient.   We also feel the costs will be on the lower estimate side, closer to $400 IF there are games.  The downside is there is limited court space.

Mass Gov hasn't changed any regulations on basketball.   It is expected they will make an announcement on winter sports in Nov.

·       IF basketball games are allowed, we will then proceed with any requirements and work with MetroWest travel league.   1 practice per week and 1 game.   Costs will be higher.

·       IF basketball games are not allowed, and all current regulations remain, we can run 2 practices per week.   Costs will be lower than originally estimated.

We are trying to offer an opportunity to some kids depending on the Mass Gov announcements. If you have any interest in playing travel basketball under these assumptions, please sign up for the travel tryouts and pay the $25 registration fee by clicking here. If there is not an opportunity for your child to participate in the season, we will refund the $25 fee. Tryout registration closes on 10/31 and there are no late registrations.

We need to remain flexible in these uncertain times and will communicate any updates as they come into focus.

Mass Gov Reopening Phases

According to the Mass.Gov reopening plans, basketball is categorized as a higher risk sport in Phase III, Step 1. We are closely monitoring the current regulations and restrictions and watching for changes as these will have a dramatic impact on our ability to run our programs.

MetroWest Travel League

The MetroWest travel league recognizes that all towns teams are faced with the same gym space restrictions. The league understands that town organizations will be unable to host games and practices in their usual manner.   MetroWest Basketball is investigating alternative options, such as pushing the season back and finding private gym facilities to host games.

NYBA Status

The lack of local, affordable courts will prevent us from offering the in-town rec league this year. We are still pursuing options for the MetroWest travel league. In order to do this effectively, we need to understand families’ interest in participating, given the following stipulations:

1.       Gym location: up to 25 minutes way (likely The Mill Works: 22 Town Farm Rd, Westford MA)

2.       Practices: one 90-minute practice/week.

3.       Games: 8-9 game season with playoffs (this is currently speculation, reality depends on MetroWest plans)

4.       Travel: home games at Millworks, away games at other private gyms such as MPLEX, Fieldhouse and Dana Barrows (between 35-50 miles away)

5.       Total Fees: $400 - $500 for season. (2020-2021 fees would allow NYBA, which is a non-profit, to break even.) Final pricing will be set once all costs are established in mid-November.

6.       COVID Waiver: to be signed by all players’ families.
